Book Serialization Update
Quality Value Investing: How to Pick the Winning Stocks of Enduring Enterprises
Summary:
I am serializing my next book about quality-driven value investing in segments on Substack Finance.
With the manuscript’s interior body segments completed, the next step is rewriting each into chapter format using a renowned Hemingway method.
Upcoming steps include drafting the front and back matter, forming a book launch team, a Kickstarter campaign, a book cover reveal, copyediting and proofreading the final manuscript, and publishing with global distribution.
Welcome back to the serialization of my next book, Quality Value Investing: How to Pick the Winning Stocks of Enduring Enterprises (working title and subtitle). I am writing the book on QVI in Substack Finance and look forward to subscribers’ support and feedback as we produce the manuscript in real-time.
In this post, I update interested readers on the next steps in completing the manuscript and constructing the book.
The Body
I have completed the body segments for the book. Next, I will rewrite each segment in chapter format, applying Ernest Hemingway’s “less is more” paragraph reconstruction technique.
The first draft manuscript’s chapter listing looks like this thus far:
Chapter One: Use a Checklist Approach to Quality Stock Picking Chapter Two: Begin with the Value Proposition in Mind Chapter Three: Screen for High-Quality Business Models Chapter Four: Calculate Shareholder Yields and Owners Earnings Chapter Five: Valuate Quality Company Stock Prices Chapter Six: Uncover Enterprise and Share Price Downside Risks Chapter Seven: Curate an Actionable Investment Thesis Chapter Eight: Become a Quality-Driven Value Investor Chapter Nine: Master the Art of Behavioral Investing Chapter Ten: Achieve Stock Market Alpha
Front and Back Matter
In the coming weeks, I will write and publish new book segments focusing on drafting the manuscript’s front and back matter.
The front matter includes the main title page, books by the author, full title page, copyright page, dedication, table of contents, forward, and preface.
Including a Forward by an independent author in the book’s front matter is an option. If you know of an exceptional writer focusing on quality-driven investing, please let me know!
The back matter includes notes, appendices, an optional index, acknowledgments, and the author’s biography.
Interior Construction
When the book segments for all three interior sections, front, body, and back matter, are completed, I will write the draft manuscript.
Next, I will use IngramSpark, part of the world’s leading book producer, to convert the copyedited manuscript into manufacturer PDFs of the jacketed case laminate hardcover, perfect bound softcover, and EPUB formats. An audiobook edition produced through Amazon’s market leader, ACX, is under consideration.
Advance Galley Proof and Launch Team
From the manufacturer’s PDF masters, we’ll produce galley proofs, also known as advance reader copies or ARCs, of the formatted book.
Keep an eye out for a future announcement of the formation of the Book Launch Team for Quality Value Investing: How to Pick the Winning Stocks of Enduring Enterprises.
A book launch team is a group of volunteers, and each participant receives a complimentary download of their choice of the print or ebook galley proof from our trusted partner, BookFunnel.
As advance readers, the launch team members will have the opportunity to provide feedback to me for suggested updates/changes before the book’s final proofreading and production.
I used a launch team for my fourth book, Build Wealth with Common Stocks, and their individual and collective support was invaluable. I have also enjoyed joining and participating in other authors’ book launch teams.
Quality Value Investing launch team members who actively participate in reading and providing feedback on the advanced reader galleys will be eligible to receive a personalized complimentary copy of the case laminate hardcover edition of the book on its publication. Also, their name will appear in the Acknowledgements section of the book with writtten permission.
In addition, galley proofs are sent to authors, journalists, and other influencers in the investing world for promotional purposes.
Remember, if you are interested in participating, be on the lookout for the Launch Team formation announcement.
Cover Reveal and Global Distribution
At some point during the book’s production steps, we will do a cover reveal upon its completion by the talented book cover artist Robin Johnson of Florida Girl Design.
Once the above steps reach satisfactory completion, I’ll submit the final formatted print and electronic PDFs and audiobook sound recording to the top two book distributors worldwide, Ingram’s LightningSource and Amazon’s ($AMZN) Kindle Direct Publishing, to manufacture, distribute, and market each published version: hardcover, softcover, ebook, and audiobook.
Next, the final print PDFs are sent to the US Copyright Office for an official copyright record and to the United States Library of Congress for its Cataloging in Publication [CIP] assignment of the book’s Library of Congress Control Number [LCCN]. The LCCN appears on the front matter’s Copyright Page for librarians to catalog the print editions, ebooks, and audiobooks.
As is customary for newly published books, I’ll send the first two copies of the hardcover editions to the Library of Congress for permanent inclusion.
Thanks for reading. I hope you are as excited as I am about completing and launching the Quality Value Investing book on Substack Finance in real time.
